Totally Tubular Chair
Furniture and interior design from the 70s are coming back. Now in 2023 millennials and gen z is adopting the cultures originally introduced in the 60s and 70s. Relaxation was key in the 70s with their low, comfy sculptural designs. In this furniture and millwork class, we were asked to come up with our own chair design. This entire journey involved many tactics such as sketching, scale models, and material testing. To achieve this 70s inspired design I created the Totally Tubular chair. This chair was created by a welding process using metal to create an inter-substructure that gives a skeletal look. This form is then counteracted by pool noodles that are covered with a bright orange boucle fabric. This post-modern, modular chair is the perfect conversation piece that adds a unique element to any space.
